Exceeding motorcycle weight limits is often blamed for deadly tire failures. Yet some manufacturers make it hard to determine what these weight limits are. Our experience is most dealers either don't know or don't explain this to customers. Even if you are aware of the issue, weight limit information is buried in your owner's manual and often hard to find or interpret. We've made it easy. Simply insert passenger weights below to calculate the safe weight range for your motorcycle by make and model year:

Model Year

Model

Passenger 1 Weight (lbs)

Passenger 2 Weight (lbs)

Available Weight (lbs)

*This is the total amount of gear, such as clothing, helmets, water and cargo, you can add and stay within the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating for your motorcycle.

- You are close to over-weighting your bike.

- You are exceeding your bike's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)

If your model is not in our database, we tell you here how to calculate safe weight using your owner's manual. But please help us by sending your information. See detail below.

We have made an effort to track down authoritative statistics used in our calculations. Manufacturers frequently make this information notoriously difficult to find. We have used information contained in owner's manuals and taken from manufacturer and dealer web sites. Results may vary depending on added options or features. If your numbers differ from ours, we would welcome hearing from you. Check with your dealer on your particular model if you are uncertain.

This is a work in progress. We started with touring bikes because that's where we're seeing tire-related crashes. But weight is an issue with all motorcycles. If your make and model is not listed here, please send us the data from your owner's manual (a scan of pages emailed to support at unsafemotorcycles dot com would be best), so we can list it. We are working toward a complete listing of all models' weight information to share with all riders. We welcome your help!
